There are more than 7,500 children and young people with gender incongruence or gender-related distress waiting for help from the NHS. Many have been waiting years – with nothing on offer. The Gender Identity Development Service (Gids) at London’s Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is due to close this spring.
